At Decon-X, we understand that some of our jobs involve complex family circumstances that require additional sensitivity and empathy. This recent project exemplified such a scenario, as the presence of children’s belongings—clothes, toys, and family photographs—provided a poignant reminder of happier times.

The Situation

We conducted a sampling job at a family’s home in Sydney’s Southwest. The family had struggled to meet their mortgage repayments, leading the financier to reclaim the property. Scattered throughout the apartment were letters from a desperate mother, pleading for more time while detailing the family's current health challenges. It was evident that this struggle had been ongoing for quite some time, culminating in the foreclosure of their home.

The property, a large three-bedroom apartment, was filled to the brim with personal possessions. Every room overflowed with clothes, toys, makeup, tools, computers, televisions, and an extensive collection of memorabilia.

The Testing Process

Our sampling process began with a rapid test conducted in the kitchen, which immediately returned a positive result for methamphetamine. As a result, we proceeded to collect 21 lab samples from various areas within the property. Unfortunately, the lab report revealed troubling findings: high methamphetamine readings in the master bedroom, along with positive results in the main bathroom, laundry, and children's room.

We always keep the children caught in these situations in our thoughts, hoping for their well-being and a brighter future ahead.
